First Grade Common Core

So my bestie in First Grade has been super jealous of my Kindergarten Common core book! Well now they have one ready for first grade. I told her and she couldn't be more excited.

There are so many great resources for all skills! If you need an activity for a skill or some practice for students that need extra work, you can find them all in this book. I can't say enough how great these books are.

Classroom Pics and the BEST sharpener!

Wow it's been a long time since I've posted. I can't believe we are already on our 6th week of school! I am loving Kindergarten though. I've had some ups and downs adjusting being a new teacher in a new school though.  I think I'm starting to be able to get a little ahead and not always feel like I am a million miles behind!

A while back Classroom Friendly Supplies sent me a pencil sharpener to test out. If you haven't heard of the Quietest Pencil Sharpener, you need to check it out! 

 

The kids love to use the pencil sharpener. It comes with a mount so the kids don't have to hold the sharpener while they sharpen the pencils. Look how sharp they turn out!!! I borrowed one of my fellow teacher's dayghter to show it off :) Love this girl, she is way excited!

If you are looking for a new sharpener I definitely reccomend this one here! It is way better than the expensive mechanical pencil sharpeners!

So I went to the Alabama for conference last week where I met up with Jennifer at First Grade Blue Skies, Jada who just moved to K! and Leslie from Life in First. I learned so much and the lovely ladies at Big Lake Kindergarten were awesome. I also got to snag a picture with Kim Adsit (She even gave me a unit to start off my year!)

Here is what my room looked like when I first entered it:

I'm super excited because my room is huge! It's the biggest one of the K classrooms which is pretty cool.  I have been working 8-5 every day this week. The cabinets were a disaster and so were the shelves. I think I've filled up the janitor's trash can atleast 5 times! There was so much in there that was older than me. I don't think the last teacher ever threw anything away!

Last night I had dinner with some of my wonderful teachers from my last school and I am going to miss them so!


And now for my Monday made it (even though it's Thursday) I've seen this straw dispenser all over pinterest. Well I couldn't find an old one for cheaper so I bought an acrylic one and heres how it turned out!

Well it's back to the classroom! Hopefully I can get things finished up

Monday Made It and Giveaway reminder

Ok so first up is my wonderful crayon art. I'm thinking of adding either the word CREATE or INSPIRE but I can't decide which:

Next up I made Krazy Straw birthday balloons inspired by Once Upon a First Grade Adventure. She even has the balloons for free! I absolutely love them and can't wait for the kiddos!


Third, I made sight word sticks. I got the download from Kathleen at Growing Kinders. I'm also working on a password sign but need to get more laminating sheets. I also have a container and am in the process of decorating it.

Last I made a ruler container from a pringles can. I saw this when Katie from Dirty Hands and Lesson Plans when she guest posted on Mrs. Stanford's Blog. That's my kittten Stig, he was checking it out :)
